Philip A. Grashoff, Jr. has learned to serve his clients well because he is one of Michigan’s most experienced and respected environmental attorneys as evidenced by his inclusion in “The Best Lawyers in America” for Environmental Law for more than 25 years. He has also been included in the annual listing of “Super Lawyers” and “DBusiness Top Lawyers.”

In his environmental practice, Phil provides advice and assistance with increasingly complex environmental issues, including:

  • Facility compliance and permitting
  • Land use issues
  • Statutory and regulatory compliance
  • Environmental issues arising out of real estate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, due diligence
  • Groundwater and soil remediation
  • Environmental litigation including defending against superfund claims, prosecuting and defending toxic tort actions, asserting claims on behalf of the insured for environmental insurance coverage
  • State and federal administrative and regulatory issues

Phil also practices natural resources and mining law, representing several foreign mining companies involved in developing mining projects and facilities in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Additionally, he serves as outside counsel for the world’s largest brewer, distiller and vintner, handling and/or overseeing significant environmental litigation, product liability and other specialized matters throughout North America.

Phil is the AgriBusiness/Food Processing practice group leader where he brings the firm’s relation-based legal services to this important industry sector from the firm’s service platform in West and Southwest Michigan. He leads a core group of the firm’s attorneys in the delivery of legal services including litigation, labor, environment and energy, succession planning, insurance and construction law, among others.
