Profile & Practice Areas
Ronald “Ron” R. Sagritalo brings a rare depth of healthcare law experience to Kotz Sangster, combining the legal acuity of a seasoned health care attorney with the operational insight of a senior compliance executive. Licensed in Illinois and seeking admission to the Michigan bar, Ron concentrates his practice in health care law, with a particular emphasis on corporate and transactional matters, fraud and abuse analysis, regulatory compliance, third-party reimbursement and corporate governance.
Ron is distinguished by the breadth of his experience in compliance leadership. He has served as chief compliance officer and privacy officer at some of the nation’s most prominent health systems and publicly traded health care companies, including HCA, Tenet, Centene, and Corewell Health (formerly Spectrum Health). That work included building compliance programs, risk assessment and trend analysis, payor audit design and execution, and the implementation of corporate integrity programs. Few attorneys bring to their clients both the legal framework and the real-world operational experience of having held that accountability at the highest level.
Ron has also served as in-house counsel at a major medical center and a large physician group in Illinois, advising on a broad range of corporate and regulatory matters. His professional background spans the full spectrum of health care providers: hospitals, physician practices, ambulatory surgery centers, home health and hospice agencies, and durable medical equipment suppliers.
Among Ron’s areas of focus is human subjects research compliance, a highly specialized field that many health care lawyers and compliance professionals have limited familiarity with. Ron has advised on federal and state regulations governing research involving human subjects and has presented on the topic in his capacity as a compliance officer, including work at Carle Clinic Association (now Carle Health) in Urbana, Illinois.
For health care organizations navigating regulatory complexity, Ron offers the uncommon advantage of a counselor who has sat in the compliance chair himself, giving him an acute understanding of the practical, day-to-day realities that clients face.
