On July 10, 2026, the Kotz Sangster team returned to Belle Isle Beach for the 8th annual Motor City Mile Open Swim, hosted by Swim Across America in Detroit. The firm participated as both a local sponsor and a swim team. This year’s event surpassed its fundraising goal, raising $129,041 — 107% of the $120,000 target.
Our team of swimmers included attorney Ed Boucher, his son Noah Boucher, attorney Doug Eyre and legal assistant Carolyn Wood. They swam alongside more than 150 participants and volunteers, supporting research to improve cancer treatment. Team Kotz Sangster v. Cancer raised $6,110.50 toward the total and placed among the top five teams on the event’s honor roll.
“Our impact was (and is) amazing and memorable for so many. Even as Swim Across America continues to make waves against cancer, our sponsorship and representation is a huge force in this fight,” said Carolyn Wood, a Kotz Sangster legal assistant and veteran competitive open water swimmer.
The impact of the event reaches well beyond the beach. A recent report from the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center noted that “funds granted by Swim Across America have helped the faculty secure more than $16 million in additional research funding, significantly expanding the reach and impact of their work.” It’s a powerful reminder of why we make waves to fight cancer.
